Lumiere Night Riding

No day riding on Wed or Thursday so it was time to get the lights out for some night riding. On Wednesday I dropped Angus off at the cx training @ Meadowfield and went out for a ride on my Beargrease. It was blowing a gale and was freezing cold, as normal ! It was the normal out & back to Bishop Auckland along the offroad line. Due to weather there was only one walker, one cyclist, two dog walkers right at the start and two cats during my 18 mile ride. It also started raining when i got out of Willington but was not heavy but made the ride even tougher going.
Yesterday again i didnt get out in day light but Durhams LUMIERE event started down in town so decided to have a ride around the light displays. Last time it was in Durham was two years ago and spectators were crushed due to massive overcrowding and very poor event organisation. This year Durham County Council has spent a massive fortune on the event management, its a shame that there was nobody turned up, it was dead and i mean dead. The carparks were empty, the roads were empty and not a sole at some the attractions we went to. The displays this year are very poor compaired to previous years and to be honest it wasnt worth going to. Huge disappointment all around, i feel sorry of the shops / cafes etc in Durham as they were all prepared for hundreds of thousands of people. Below are some photos, my cheapo camera was struggling with light conditions
Guardian Angels - North Road roundabout - watering cans with a coloured buld in

El Sol - Clear tent with a carboard cut out in and a buld

Key Frames - stickman climbing up and down the old Durham Miners Hall

Stickman on the move - it was quite good this one but slow at times

Helvetictoc - a few words projected onto the Library wall

Volume Unit - Image display cast on the old National Savings Building - so of impressive

Litre of Light - didnt even bother going into this one - plastic bottle with a bulb in

Fete - i have seen better lighting on circus tents than this down at the Sands

Elephantastic - 3d image cast onto a false arch way, impressive and good sound, probably the best one

Green House Effect - cars with plastic flowers and a bulb in - not impressed with these

At least they used Nissan Cars manufactured over in Washington

Platonic Spin - three neon tubes shaped into rectangles !

Sanctuary - neon tube bent  into the shape of a bird box @ St Oswalds Church yard, sound track to this was rubbish

"I" - image show cast onto the side of Durham Uni Library - ok but nowt out overs

Solar Equation - this was not working as it was too windy but the artist came over and spoke to use about it.

Volume Unit - in static mode
Not a sole in the queue to get into the market place. There was more leaving than entering!
