In the Lakes - 2014 Models - Surly Krampus Di2, Pugsley, Mukluk, Kona Wo & Genesis Caribou

We have just returned for a break in the Lake District and just happened to call in past a few cycle shops over there ;-) To my surprise the world of Fat & 29+er is spreading into main stream high street shops.
Keswick Mountain Bikes have a 2014 Salsa Mukluk which is on demo but its a XL 21" in red option. After talking to the owner the last time we were over there he has been trying out this Mukluk on his local trails. They also have a Salsa Vargo which i have never seen in flesh, quiet impressive on the eye.
Ghyllside Cycles - Ambleside - have a demo Surly Krampus Alfine Di2 demo nearly built up, they also have a frameset / wheel combo for sale. The paintwork looks good in the daylight, better than in any photo. They also have Surly Puglsey in stock for demo.
Wheelbase - Staveley - have a 2014 Kona Wo, i just cannot understand what market this bike is designed / built for as the rrp is £1699. For the spec and build i feel that it is way over priced. The paint finish is nice but apart from that it dosent float my boat. They also have the new 2014 Genesis Caribou on the shop floor. Now this is a nice looking bike and much better spec for the rrp. One thing i did notice that the fork clearance is very poor with the standard Nate tyres fitted. There is one thing for certain you will never be able to get a Bud wedged in between the fork legs !
Arragons Cycles - Penrith - not fat or 29+er's but they had in a Genesis Day One Afline Di2. Now this a beautiful looking machine with a stealth black look about it and red graphics. The Di2 version of the Alfine gears and internal cable routing makes it a very smooth looking bike. The battery is up inside the seatpost so no external battery box to look at. I picked it up to see what it felt like compaired to my old On One pomp Alfine 8speed and it felt lighter on the back end. After reading the brochure it states nearly 27lbs so still not a lightweight by any means. This could replace my Eastway but one problem - rrp £2.2k

Cyclewise - Whinlatter - not fat in here but a great slection of bikes / bits n bobs

Biketreks - Ambleside - as you can see it was pouring down!

Most expensive rrp i have ever seen on a push bike. Even more expensive than the Cannondale Supersix Evo Sagan Signature Ltd which was next to this Trek Project One Dura Ace Di2 model

Day One Alfine Di2 - even better looking in the flesh
Grizedale Bikes - another great selection bikes and clothing etc - no spare fat tubes (blog to follow!)
