North Yorkshire Moors Costal Cycle Challenege NYMCCC

This is the first time we have done this event but have ridden most of the route before. We landed just after 8.30 and got signed on etc and recieved our start time. By the time we got sorted etc we were well over 5 mins late in getting away, not to worry. From Robin Hoods Bay we headed to Whitby along the Cinder Track for our first check point, we passed a few en route and there was a few coming the opposite direction heading for Ravenscar, check point 2. When we got to Whitby it was busy with over six riders in front waiting to be logged. We got away just before a large group set off. On the way to Ravenscar there was loads heading Whitby direction. Again we passed a few riders then it went quiet until we reached checkpoint 2. Again there was a few riders waiting but did not take too long. Back on the cinder track heading towards Scalby for checkpoint 3. I have only done the last part of this section once before and forgot just how up and down it was. Once we reached Scalby is was a quick check in and turned and headed back to Ravenscar again for checkpoint 4. We passed a couple of riders and was tight in places as all the riders coming from Whitby were starting to fly through. Back at Ravenscar we checked in, quick energy bar and drink as we had covered 32 miles by now. From here there was a road climb upto Stoupe Brow and then upto the radio mast for checkpoint 5. That was a canny climb at the end of the route but the sun was still blazing away and very little wind. We overtook a few on the road climb before dropping back down a singletrack road and back onto the cinder track. The descent was very fast and the turn off could have easily been missed. Back on the track it was a quick sprint for the last 1.5miles to Robin Hoods Bay for final check in. It was a great ride and after talking to Norman (orgainser) found out there was 128 riders with only a few not turning up on the day. We got our medals & certificates followed by a big bowl of meaty/veg stew/broth which was red hot, tea/coffee/juice washed down with a choice of three hot puddings. We got apple crumble and custard but you could have got cream if you wanted. Excellent event and we will be returning again next year. Not much chance for any photos as we were nipping along. Our riding time was 2hrs 52mins 52secs and total time 3hrs 2mins 4 secs with nearly 2000ft of climbing as well. Im sure we were the only fat / 29"+ bikes there. Afterwards we had a walk down to the beach and a very slow walk/climb back upto the station carpark.
